I find that difficult to believe, actually. Did the source provide documentation?
From an article entitled "Libraries are alive and well." It says, "...according to an article by Chris Dodge appearing in the July-August 2005 issue of Utne. Dodge, the librarian for Utne, cites some encouraging statistics about libraries, compiled by the American Library Association..."
