Stranger than fiction...we couldn't possibly make these things up.
Yeah but what does it do? SWAT teams? Poison gas? A hatch opens and swallows the annoying patron. One can only hope.
We have a panic button too, mostly staff set it off with our knees.
And just what is supposed to prompt you to hit it? Bank robbers? Oh wait. I find that puzzling. Does it call the police? An alarm company? Ring in the back office?
Ours only calls the back office. That is, it would if it had a battery. Which it hasn't had since approx. the day after it was installed, 8 yrs ago.
That's a real commitment to staff safety, there. 0_o
Every library I've worked in has had a panic button. And as Roxanne says, it seems that every library has it somewhere where staff accidentally set it off on a regular basis. How come that never happens in banks?
